A Brief History

  • Dec-1996: Istari built at Frontex; a FreeBSD system. Initially hosts radicalcomputing.com
  • Summer 1998: Machine gets hit by lightening?
  • ????: Istari is hosted by ASA Real Estate Services, Istari is moved over to Linux from FreeBSD
  • 1999: Istari begins hosting the crackerbox.cx domain.
  • Aug-2002: A new box is built, Ithryn. Istari is retired. Primary domain changed to ithryn.net
  • Sept-2004: Ithryn is moved from CTC Communications to Ironside Solutions
  • Nov-2004: Ithryn's hosting company, Ironside Solutions, folds due to corruption from its CEO. Ithryn is moved a hosting facility used by an Ironside Solutions spin-off company.
  • Sept-2005: Ithryn's hosting company folds as the owner has had enough work for himself. Ithryn is moved to Brad's apartment. While at Brad's apartment Ithryn is moved to a 1U VALinux box.
  • June-2006: Ithryn is temporarily moved to Jon's house in Warner, NH. Jon has his DSL line "upgraded" to a business account with a five static IP addresses, no port filtering and an address block that isn't on any DNS blacklists. Unfortunately the bandwidth is limited to 1.5mbs/.5mbs
  • Mar-2009: Ithryn finally gets some NEW hardware. The operating system is migrated from Debian Stable to Ubuntu Server x86_64 edition. A complete audit and docementation project is started to (hopefully) weed out the legacy cruft.
